Would it be cost effective or cheaper to do so?

The short answer is no, it is not possible to build, from scratch, your own solar panel that is as effective as those sold on the market for residential use.

You should try to take advantage of the proven-to-be-effective solar panel products on the market. WIth such products, it is possible that if your house generates power that exceeds the amount of power you use that such excess engergy can be transferred to your power company and, in turn, you can get a check for it.

A great handyman site that is dedicated to all the information you need about solar panels and the like, including information on costs, government assistance, grants, and overall common questions is the following:

The site above provides articles about the types of solar panels that are available.

Im fresh out of high school and am not sure what education i should be seeking next. I have heard that renewable energy is a fast growing field and would like to know what education a good job in that field would require. By a good job i mean anything from installing solar panels or repairing wind turbines. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look into electrical, electronic, and mechanical engineering. I would say the best thing that anyone could tell you is to stay versatile. Things are changing so fast in the green industry that by the time you learn one thing very well, it has become obsolete, or close to it.

If you are a self help type of person and are really interested in installing or consulting, check out a program ‘RETScreen’. This is a program that the Canadian government has put out to help consultants and estimaters plan for renewable energy conversions

We have 2 Evergreen Solar panels 180 watts each, Tristar 60Amp Controller, 2, 400 watt Air-x wind generators, about 8 marine deep cycle batteries from walmart now. A 250A DC breakerbox from Midnight Solar, Xantrex DR-2412 2400Watt Inverter, and a Reliance transfer switch.
So far the system has cost about $6,000 with everything overbuilt to be upgradeable with more solar panels as soon as we get some more funding!
More videos soon lots has changed since winter has set in.

We are considering buying and installing solar panels on our house… I don’t know how much it’ll cost us. Anyone knows where I could find a free quote? Thanks

Unfortunately without knowing your energy usage it is impossible to give an estimate on total system costs for a solar electric system. You can find out more about sizing your system by reading this article.
